Discover the History and Effects of the “Teacher Plant”
Ayahuasca is a blend of two plants used for spiritual and religious purposes by ancient Amazonian tribes. Embrace the serenity and celebrate the moments in style, honouring the Shipibo-Konibo artworks with this T-shirt, perfect for retreats and ceremonies.
Ayahuasca, also known as the tea, the vine, and la purga, is a blend of two plants: the ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and a shrub called chacruna (Psychotria Viridis), which contains the hallucinogenic drug dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Discover the history and effects of this “teacher plant” on our Ayahuasca T-Shirt.
First discover: Evidence from pre-Columbian rock drawings suggests hundreds of years of ayahuasca use in the Amazon. British plant explorer, Richard Spruce, discovered the Tukanoan Indians in the Rio Negro region of the Brazilian Amazon using a liana (vine) known as caapi to induce a state of intoxication in 1851.
Effects of the “teacher plant”: People who have consumed ayahuasca report having mystical experiences and spiritual revelations. According to current research, Ayahuasca may also protect brain cells, stimulate neural cell growth, boost mood, improve mindfulness, and treat depression and addiction disorders.
The Shipibo-Konibo artworks: The Shipibo-Konibo are indigenous people known for their shamanistic religion and visionary arts, which include labyrinthine geometric designs and psychedelic colour combinations consistent with ayahuasca visions. Recognitions: In South America, ayahuasca is an integral part of some tribal societies. In 2008, Peru’s government recognized ayahuasca’s status, stating that it is “one of the basic pillars of the identity of the Amazon peoples” and “constitutes the gateway to the spiritual world and its secrets”.
